You Become What is in Your Heart

Written by Joe Dardano

The heart is a powerful engine in our lives (Proverbs 23:7). What resides in our hearts, shapes us. What we think sinks into our hearts, and it sets there quickly if we we employ affirmations over and over. The affirmations create a mold inside us and that mold produces results in our day to day living. Proverbs 23 offers us a stark admonition later in the chapter. We need to be contsantly awake in ouir lives. Drunkenness will numb us out and throw a cloak over our feelings for a while. As people are drunk they cannot feel, and if they cannot feel, they fail to listen for God’s voice. They listen to the voice that says “drink” or “use drugs” and then become enslaved to those voices. As the voices of destruction take over, we become those voices, voices of shame, and low self esteem. Ultimately, those voices of destruction eradicate our hope. God insistes that we do have hope (Proverbs 23:18). But we need to stay close to God, stay clean and sober and awake to hear His voice to really grasp the hope He offers us.
