Work without God is Useless

Written by Joe Dardano

Working your tail off to build something outside the will of God, outside of bringing God into the relationship brings emptiness and unfulfillment. If you are trusting in God, you trust Him in all things. The “why” in our activities is vitally important. In all our toil we need to remember why we are working, for what purpose are we working, building & creating? Is it for the ephemeral moment of for eternity? Do you ever ask yourself, “why am I getting up to work today?” The inner pupose of our activity can have minimal or huge impact, depending on our motives. If you want to leave a lasting legacy to the work you do, then focus on working for everlasting goals. Seen in that way, projecting onto the future and seeing life as it will unfold is very important. Looking forward is like putting on some God lenses, as the Almighty is invariably concerned about continuing the line of people forever onward. God wants us to put our hearts into the welfare of our children, their children and so on. Things that are immediate can be good, like the social media tool “Instagram.” But more often than not, our current culture puts less and less value on working and waiting for good things to unfold. There is too much expecation on things to happen now and forgetting that labor and faith are valuable concepts to place into action for future rewards. In the Western world, we find that example in opening up the gates to foreigners to invest, and live in our lands ( a short term policy to increase population). Welcoming strangers is an inherently good, Christian act; yet at the same time, we have subverted our future by permitting the killing of unborn children for decades. This conflict does not jive with nature or with human reason; its a confusing paradox. One solution is to point people toward sacred Scripture to where the real value lies: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves. Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” (Psalm 127: 1-3)
