Who do You Trust?

Written by Joe Dardano

Where you place your trust is how your life will evolve. Psalms 52 and 53 make clear that if you “rely on abundant riches and seek refuge in wealth” your heart will grow cold toward creation. If we place our trust in God then we will treat others respectfully. When we treat others as we want to be treated, our lives flourish. This lifestyle produces great fruit: “I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever.” (Psalm 52:8) When people choose to trust in idols, they do not deal gracefully with other people, putting humanity below their pursuit of things. In Psalm 53, it is described as people eating up other people as they eat bread (verse 4). The consequence of such choices is not good. Verse 5 in Psalm 53 goes on to describe a life lived in terror where God “scatters the bones of the ungodly.” Our inner sense of safety and eternal salvation depends on putting God first above all. When we place God above all else, He “restores the fortunes of his people.” (Psalm 53:6)
