Jesus Promises Abundance

Written by Joe Dardano

The notion of abundance buttressed by a robust faith is what God loves profit aims to awaken in readers around the world and this approach fits perfectly in the words of Jesus in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” Jesus came to earth so that we could imitate Him and have abundance in all things and enter eternal life. Yet this perspective is not just revealed in the New Testament. It is a promise that extends back to Israel. As God was leading people out of the desert and into the land of Canaan, the assurance to His people was that they were going to a better place: “Observe the commands of the Lord your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land with brooks, streams, and deep springs gushing out into the valleys and hills; a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey; a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills. (Deuteronomy 8:6-9) Canaan was a land of abundance, a place without scarcity. This hope for a better world hinges, however, on observing the commands of the Lord. Living in sin and disobedience rattles the human mind and soul and plunges one into anxiety, fear & death. God offers humanity freedom of choice but we have choices and can spit in the face of God to refuse his promises of goodness for our lives. Nevertheless, God loves us so much that he sends messengers our way to challenge our minds and hearts to repent.
