Prosperity, vitality and success for a nation begins with making more life. It’s foundation is the value of welcoming new life all the time, to replenish the old and usher forth the new, in a continuous cycle. In Isaiah 23, there is a prophecy of the destruction of the ancient city of Tyre, now in present day Lebanon. In Biblical times, Tyre was a prosperous port city where trade and business flourished: “your revenue was the grain of Shihor, the harvest of the Nile; you were the merchant of the nations.” (Isaiah 23: 3) Later on in this chapter, the Word of God tells us that Tyre would eventually face destruction and its vibrant days of trade would end. Among the origin of the cause of decline is worth noting as it will surely help our circumstances today. In verse 4, we read, “I have neither labored nor given birth. I have neither reared young men nor brought up young women.” Shutting off the fountain of new birth and life is disasterous for any nation. It clearly signals its decline. Today, we can only imagine what the consequences of abortion will bring upon the spiritual health and material prosperity of nations that permit the murder of innocent life. How long a trend toward poverty can a nation endure before it sees clearly to defend life?
