The power to live as a Christian needs to come from our hearts, the feeling center of our beings. If we truly love doing good, the power of our Christian witness becomes real and effective. We will see results of our Christian life when we pray for the desire to do good and when we put that desire into practice. The passage in Titus 2: 11-14 makes this perfectly clear: “Beloved, The grace of God has appeared, saving all and training us to reject godless ways and worldly desires and to live temperately, justly, and devoutly in this age, as we await the blessed hope, the appearance of the glory of our great God and savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to deliver us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people as his own, eager to do what is good.” The power to live temperately and devoutly comes from God. We cannot do this alone. We must pray for the desire to live this way and rely on Him to grant us the strength to live it out daily. The key is not just having the mental desire to do good, but also the feeling desire within. If the feeling is not there at this time, pray for it. Ultimately, you want to be in a state of mind and heart where you are “eager to do what is good.”
