Abraham was great because he trusted God. God led him out of Ur to a new land filled with milk and honey. It took trust for Abraham to leave his family and friends for a new land at an old age. Abraham also trusted God’s prophecy that he would have a son and heir. The trust held by Abraham counted as a deep and steadfast faith. In Genesis 15:6 we read, “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” Often people need proof and believe what is possible for man. But God encourages to believe what is possible for God. God can do what man cannot. People struggle, for the most part, to believe that the unseen can become seen. Abraham believed the Word of God that a son and heir was on his way. The facts were that Sarah was older and barren, so the promise made to Abraham was challenging. We are encouraged to believe in the unseen. An excellent example is in 2 Cor. 4:18, “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.” What helps our faith is that the temporal order is temporary and will soon parish. Things in the invisible world of Spirit live to eternity. Ideas that we cannot touch or see, ideas like love, loyalty and faith live forever. Other notions like infinite abundance and propsperity live in the eternal realm as well. If we hold these ideas in our thoughts and hearts, they will manifest in our lives. If we hold poverty in our minds and hearts, we will see poverty show up in our lives. Trust which translates into a deep faith is needed to build our relationship with God who provides abundantly. I encouraged everyone to study the unwavering faith of Abraham as an example for all of us to follow.
