We live in an era where truth is abused, maligned and disrespected in greater and greater degrees by each passing day. It is clear you cannot trust nor rely on sources of information you read online, whether from established news media or social media posts. Media technology has become so sophisticated that now deep fake videos and images pervade the media landscape distorting the very truth of the person or people you are seeing on the screen. This technology is implemented to maliciously misrepresent the person(s) you are seeing in the image. In time, one can easily come away from such experiences asking, is that the real person in that photo or video? Or is that fake news? The more media technology evolves in the creation of deception and the more people utilize this tool, the more distrust grows. That mistrust essentially gets directed at authoritative figures in the social arena, cultivating cynicism and alienation of the human person in their ability to participate and interact in the fabric of human discourse and culture. One crucial victim in this development is the status of truth as a human and divine virtue. The moral importance of speaking and writing the truth gets exponentially diminished in favor of expedient motives. One way to rebuild human trust in the truth is to seek out the word of God. Upon reading the word, you can be assured that the truth is reflected in the holy scriptures: “your word is truth” (John 17:17). Ultimately, as humans behave and shape and influence their minds on a daily basis, it is hopeful to consider the word of God in the holy bible as a source of objective truth. In the word of God you meet the centerpiece of creation, Jesus Christ who boldly proclaimed: “I am the way, truth and life, no one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Alas you have Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, existing as the objective truth people in this confused and deceptive world can faithfully rely upon.
