Most people do not test natural laws for fear of death and the over-whelming life giving instinct for preserving life. For example, people who reach the age of reason know not to jump from a 20 story building because the law of gravity would surely lead them to a certain death. The law of gravity is a cause and effect phenomenon: drop an object from the sky and it will fall to earth at a certain constant speed, universal anywhere on earth at any time. The mechanics of this law also applies to the law in Galatians 6:7, “God is not mocked for you reap whatever you sow.” Whatever you do in life, whatever decisions you make or don’t make, comes back to you showing up in the consequences that appear in your life (Proverbs 11:25). Most people do not really believe this law because they do not reflect on their lives enough to understand the cause and effect nature of their actions (Proverbs 4: 19). I encourage you to test your life in this way. Make decisions and then journal on what you did during the week and reflect on those actions a week later and see what you find. When I taught high school religion many years ago, I had 6 classes of religion students keep a prayer journal all year. They wrote their prayers (3 per student) and then I asked them to look at their prayers a week later and see which ones came true. Over 33 weeks of school, about 150 student made close to 15,000 prayers. By the end of the year we all concluded that God answered 2 out of every 3 prayers. Pretty good stats. One of the purposes of that exercise was to build in the habit of self-refection for students. What if we had a rigorous habit of self-reflection? Would we see the law of Galatians 6:7 at work in our lives? If that is so, then if we are to deeply understand the law of Galatians 6:7, would we be deceived to fall into sin? Self-awareness is the key. The message God offers us in Proverbs Chapter 5, is yet another indication that most sin is a result of ignorance. If we do not follow God’s wisdom in regard to being obedient to His ways, we will suffer greatly, both in the flesh and financially.
