Fruit of The Spirit

Written by Joe Dardano

A merely casual reading of the New Testament reveals the Biblical emphasis on fruit of our labor. In the Kingdom of God, the Lord expects fruitfulness. In Matthew 7:19, “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” Yet we need not stress about us creating the end result. We merely have to do the work God is calling us and He produces the fruit for us. Jesus says, ” I am the vine, you are the branches” (John 15:5) and apart from Jesus Christ we can do nothing. Jesus tells us to abide in him and that abundant fruit will result. That is what we need to focus on, is abiding in Jesus Christ moment by moment. Recall the instance when the disciples met Jesus after His Resurrection by the Sea of Tiberias. The disciples were fishing with no success until Jesus instructed them to cast their nets on the right side of their boat. Only then, after following the direction of Jesus Christ, they caught fish, 153 of them and nets not torn (John 21: 11). All this points to the reality that to produce results, like winning souls for Jesus in Eternity, we need to abide in Him constantly.
