An intimate relationship with Jesus Christ involves inviting Him into our lives, to have him dine with us and live with us in spiritual union. What Christ has been given by the Father, He also gives to us if we ask in His name (John 14: 13-14). If we do not receive, it is because we do not ask (James 4:2). In this manner, Jesus Christ makes wonderful promises to His believers such as, “because I live, you also will live” (John 14:19). The promise of eternal life, that our souls will not be extinguished by death is the most coveted inheritance a human being, who understands very deeply and profoundly the Kingdom of God, could desire. Once you have eternal life, you have everything because it is the ultimate gift from God. Obtaining this gift involves cultivating, through an internal decision, to follow and live in the way of Jesus Christ. It involves quieting oneself to hear the constant knocking of Jesus Christ on the door of our hearts; if we open that door and invite him into our lives, he will dine with us and we will dine with him (Rev. 3:20). Intimacy is built up in sharing a meal together and even more so when you live together: “Those who love me will keep my word, and my Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them” (John 14: 23).
