We cannot earn Salvation from God; He has given it to us if we believe in the reality, power and existence of Jesus Christ, who is the God of the living, not of the dead. When I worked among the poorest of the poor, I learned of AA. My students often spoke of the 12 step tradition, and they told me over and over, “that God will do for you what you cannot do for yourself.” All we need to do is believe it, accept it and take action in this new belief system. In Proverbs 10:22, it tells us that “the Lord’s blessing is our greatest wealth and our work adds nothing to it.” We can work our tails off but it really adds nothing to the blessings from God. What we can do is walk in the light because if we walk in the light we will not stumble (John 11: 9-10). In this way the stone that the builders rejected will not become a stumbling block for us because we believe completely in the full humanity & divinity of Jesus Christ. Ultimately, our prayer life then becomes enriched with peace and inner security that God is in control and that we will receive everything we ask of him (John 11:22, Matthew 7:7, John 14:13).
