The Light of the World

Written by Joe Dardano

In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” Jesus is the ultimate light that shines on us when we believe in the power and majesty of God, and when we believe that Jesus Christ died for our sins and opened the door to eternal life for those who believe. This scripture is very much related to Revelation 21:22 where Heaven is described in detail. In Heaven we see that light is crucial to a full experience of God: “And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb.” (Rev. 21: 23) Light is essential for life on earth. This explains why so many people who live in northern regions experience emotional and psychological hardships such as depression. The lack of light in winter is hard on the soul. Alternatively in Summer when light shines 24 hours a day, you experience more energy and fullness of life. If you get a chance to travel to a northern region, go there in Summer and soak in all the light. When you do that, you may ultimately see why Jesus Christ is the true light of the world because light produces life; and in darkness lies death.
