Psalm 65: The Scope of Faith

Written by Joe Dardano

The God Loves Profit perspective reflects 100% the Biblical teachings about God and the faith we require to understand and experience fully the power of God in our lives. In Psalm 65, we are given four concepts that help us draw closer to God and bring the power of Salvation into our lives. The first concept is forgiveness. We need to see God as a forgiving God: “when deeds of iniquity overwhelm us, you forgive our transgressions.” (verse 3) The catch is that we need to confess our sins and look deep into our consciences to surrender our faults to God. Without repentance, there is no forgiveness. Reason holds that God cannot forgive a sin that is not confessed or recognized as sin. The second concept is the idea of hope. God offers hope to us: “you are the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas.” (verse 5) When life seems dark and gloomy, we are offered the light of salvation in Jesus Christ. This second concept rests on the idea that life will get better moving forward; that progress and improvement will follow us if we have the faith to perseverve and not throw in the towel. People who “throw down the towel” accept life as it is and delve into a life of sin without a glimmer of hope. The third concept gives life to the second concept we just discussed—power. God is all powerful: “By your strength you established the mountains; you are girded with might…those who live at earth’s farthest bounds are awed by your signs.” (verses 6-8) Power is ultimately found in the presence of God. By His power He created the earth, through proclamation of His Word. It is through God’s power that we can have hope. Hope comes from our faith but also from knowing that an all powerful God can bring into realization our deepest hopes & dreams. In the end, the power of God brings prosperity and abundance to us, as long as we follow His Ways. The fouth concept, therefore, is prosperity: “You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.” (verses 9-11)
