God Wants Us to Profit

Written by Joe Dardano

To many the thought that God wants us to profit may cause disturbance. They may reply, “surely the spiritual life in Jesus Christ is not a business deal.” The meaning of “profit” in the Holy Bible goes beyond the pursuit of money. It involves increase in our whole being; it has to do with expansion of our entire life until we reach Heaven. You see, getting to heaven is the exact opposit of living of life of complacency and apathy. Being granted that ticket into the pearly gates is not a result of a debauched life and over indulgence in fleshly desires. Its the very opposite of that. Heaven is the final step to a life filled with the spirit of Jesus Christ, a life dedicated to living for pure Godly ideals. Yes we will fall down from time to time, but we resolve to get up every time and strive for holiness and perfection in Christ Jesus. Nothing less is demanded of us. The Book of Jeremiah chapter 2 clearly illustrates those who wander from The Way of God and follow false preachers will not gain, “the shepherds transgressed against me; the prophets prophesied by Baal and went after things that do not profit” (Jeremiah 2:8) Worshipping false gods leads to nothing. This point is reinforced in verse 11. So we see here that the Christian life is in fact an increase for us; we gain and profit ourselves as we dive into a Christian lifestyle, not done perfectly, but perfectly striving to get there until that Grace which we cannot earn is granted to us through Faith in Jesus Christ. The end result of living a life in God is prosperity (Jeremiah 2:37).
