Profit is Essential

Written by Joe Dardano

In the Bible, the point is made clear that the people of God need to profit in their lifetime. The Word of God teaches us that by pursuing the values of non-believers, we will not gain or profit from their ways. In Isaiah 30: 1-7, we read that “Egypt’s help is worthless and empty.” In our time, we can understand the image of Egypt to be the godless, pagan culture of hate and death that dominates our society today. If we bring our hopes to this ideal, it “brings neither help nor profit.” (Isaiah 30: 5) Our hope is in the Way of God. In this path, we cherish life, growth, abundance and commitment to living a holy life through forgiveness, love and compassion toward all. This does not mean that all ideas are good or that we keep silent when untruth creeps into our daily lives. We are called to proclaim the Gospel and stand for righteousness. This is especially true when alien ideas try to cram themselves into our culture and everyday life. As it reads in Isaiah 25:5, “the noise of aliens is like heat in a dry place.” This metaphor explains why so many Christians become irritated by alien ideas that pervade in Western Culture today; ideas about justice, love, marriage and truth. God created human beings to be free, to have the freedom of choice. And that ultimate freedom is expressed when one chooses the way of God, which eventually brings profit and advancement in this life and, in time, brings us to the ultimate goal of Heaven.
