Is Nothing Impossible?

Written by Joe Dardano

Jesus says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil 4:13). Does that mean all things? Well, according to Jesus, it is all things as long as we have faith. Everything hinges on faith. If faith is strong enough, even defying the laws of nature is possible. The story in Matthew 14:22-33 when Jesus walked on water is one example. It is not a surprise to find Jesus defying the laws of nature, but in this story we see Peter involved in the supernatural event, “Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” I believe that the disciples were awestruck. The Scriptures mention that when the wind died down, they all worshipped him saying “truly you are the Son of God.” But the disciples had seen miracles of Jesus before. They saw, for instance, the miracle of turning water into wine at Cana, the Transfiguration and the multiplication of loaves. I believe this miracle was more inspiring to the disciples because they saw that it was possbile for humans to defy nature too. Peter was walking on water until he was overcome by doubt. Now this begs the question, what miracles are you denying today because of doubt?
