God Seeks Fruit

Written by Joe Dardano

In Isaiah 5: 3-7 we learn that God does not want us to waste our time on earth but to maximize each moment to bring good to others. In other words, he desires that we produce fruit for His Kingdom: “Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard. What more could have been done for my vineyard than I have done for it? When I looked for good grapes, why did it yield only bad? Now I will tell you what I am going to do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it will be destroyed; I will break down its wall, and it will be trampled. I will make it a wasteland, neither pruned nor cultivated, and briers and thorns will grow there. I will command the clouds not to rain on it.” The vineyard of the Lord Almighty is the nation of Israel, and the people of Judah are the vines he delighted in. And he looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress.” In this lesson, God is simply allowing the consequences of apathy and selfishness to run its course. God is permitting destruction and misery to follow the years of lawlessness and ignorance in regard to the ways of God. Refusal to follow the statutes of God brings unfavorable consequences. In our time, we simply are not bringing this reality into public discourse because we live in times of defiance and rebellion towards God.
