Go Beyond the Digital World

Written by Joe Dardano

The digital world has revolutionized how people interact with one another. It permits leverage—communicating information in certain public forums to reach massive number of people. For example, someone can post a message on Twitter and it is read by hundreds of thousands of people, even millions of people. The advantage in communications is that, in our time, we can reach more people faster and more efficiently. This is fantastic. The danger is in dedicating too much energy and time to digital relationships at the expense of personal relationships. This can rob us of inner joy and happiness. This is made clear in 2 John 1:12 “I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.” There is power in meeting people face to face, and this power affects our joy and happiness. There is no doubting the power to reach people through technology; but for our joy to be complete, we need to create and foster human, face to face relationships.
